Dr. Steven I. Sloan is Board Certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He attended medical school at the University of Colorado. While a medical student, he was one of the founders of Camp Wapiyapi – a summer camp for children with cancer. He completed both his residency and fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic in 2005, where he had the privilege of being mentored by international leaders in the field of pain management. He is experienced in epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation for facet pain, joint injections, and spinal cord stimulation.
Dr. Sloan has presented at national conferences and is a contributing author on nearly 20 medical research projects involving pain transmission in the spinal cord, the cellular basis of drug-resistant asthma, and novel interventional treatments for lumbar degenerative disc disease. He also authored “An Introduction to Pain Management”, a manual that describes core concepts of interventional pain medicine. Dr. Sloan has practiced in New Mexico and Washington, DC. He has been recognized as one of the “Top Doctors in the Washington area” by Consumers’ Checkbook. Dr. Sloan chose to go into pain management because it combines the skill of using one’s hands with forming meaningful patient relationships.
In his spare time, Dr. Sloan enjoys the outdoors. He is a former mountaineering instructor and has climbed throughout Peru and Bolivia. He has skied throughout the Rocky Mountains, hiked along the glaciers of Iceland, and raced in the Nation’s Triathlon. He and his family look forward to adventures in the Texas Hill Country.
