Dr. Jessica Arias Garau is a double board-certified physician in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, specializing in advanced minimally invasive spine procedures and surgical treatments (MIS) for spine and musculoskeletal pain. With over a decade of experience, she provides a highly specialized, procedure-focused approach to patients in the Austin and Round Rock communities, offering effective alternatives to traditional open spine surgery.
She is among a select group of physicians—particularly women—trained in advanced minimally invasive spine techniques. Dr. Arias Garau focuses on identifying and treating the underlying source of pain through precise, image-guided interventions and innovative technologies, helping patients achieve meaningful, long-term relief and improved function.
Her expertise includes a broad range of minimally invasive spine procedures, including minimally invasive lumbar decompression, interspinous spacer techniques, basivertebral nerve ablation, sacroiliac joint fusion, and vertebral augmentation among others. She also specializes in advanced neuromodulation therapies such as spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation, and peripheral nerve stimulation, in addition to performing high-precision fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided spine and joint procedures tailored to each patient’s condition.
Dr. Arias Garau treats a wide spectrum of complex conditions, including chronic neck and back pain, degenerative spine disease, joint and musculoskeletal pain, painful diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), post-surgical pain syndromes, and phantom limb pain. She also has a special interest in women’s pain conditions and is committed to providing thoughtful, individualized care that reflects the unique needs of each patient.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology with a strong foundation in biochemistry from the University of Rochester before completing medical school at the University of Puerto Rico. She went on to complete her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Puerto Rico, where she held leadership and teaching roles, followed by fellowship training in Interventional Pain Management at Temple University. She has contributed to the field through textbook chapters and peer-reviewed publications and remains dedicated to advancing minimally invasive spine care through innovation and evidence-based practice.
Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Arias Garau values clear communication and a personalized approach—treating each patient with the same care and attention she would offer her own family.
As an active member of the local community, Dr. Arias Garau is passionate about helping patients in Round Rock and the greater Austin area stay active and engaged in their daily lives. Outside of medicine, she enjoys long-distance running, trail running, and staying active through fitness and outdoor activities. She values spending quality time with family and friends and brings that same energy, compassion, and connection into her patient care.
