Soft Tissue Injections

Pain Management Treatments in Texas

A soft tissue injection is a noninvasive, nonsurgical pain relief treatment. These simple procedures can provide you with long-term relief from chronic pain conditions such as arthritis and tennis elbow. The procedure works by either removing excess fluid from the tissue, or by inserting anti-inflammatory medications into it. Unlike joint injections, soft tissue injections are administered in the spaces between a muscle and the bone.

Soft tissue injections are used to treat several types of pains and conditions, including:
  • Bursitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Trigger finger
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Psoriatic arthritis
What to Expect

When you arrive at Pain Specialists of America, our team will learn more about you, your problem, and how long it’s been bothering you. We will then determine if soft tissue injections will be a useful treatment for your condition.

The typical soft tissue injection process includes the following steps:
  • An ultrasound over the area of pain to determine where the injection should take place
  • The skin above the injection area is cleaned with anti-bacterial agents
  • An anesthetic is applied to the injection area
  • The needle is injected using ultrasound guidance. Fluid is drained or anti-inflammatory medication is inserted as needed.

After the procedure, you should try to keep the injection area immobilized for the next 12 to 18 hours. These procedures are very safe, and outside of some minor soreness, side effects of rare. There are sparse reports of certain patients experiencing hyperpigmentation, atrophy of subcutaneous fat, and infections after the injection, but the chances of this happening are very low.
